About Me

My name is Jane McClintock, and I live in Princeton, New Jersey, with my husband and our three children. I've been babywearing since my son was born in 2002. I was lucky enough to become interested in baby slings and carriers at the beginning of a babywearing renaissance. In the last five years, powered by the Internet, there has been an explosion of innovation and improvements on fit, function, and style in ring slings and pouches, completely new designs in structured carriers, and adaptations of traditional baby carriers such as wraps and Asian baby carriers to suit modern needs and tastes.

Babywearing and teaching others how to babywear has become my passion, leading me to try out dozens of slings and carriers in search of the most comfortable, most useful, and most versatile ones out there. My goal in starting QuirkyBaby is to offer you the best of the many carriers I have tried, and to help you find the one (or more!) that will work for you and your baby.

Open House Hours

To browse the many carriers and accessories I stock and to purchase products locally, please feel free to stop by my home office in Princeton, New Jersey, between 9:30 am and 1:30 pm on Thursdays. My address is 28 Marion Road West in Princeton.

Everything listed as in stock on my website is available for purchase and local pickup. If you wish to order but can't make a Thursday open house, you may order and choose "local pickup" as your shipping option and email me to arrange a time to pick up your order.

Please note: the open house hours are not intended to take the place of a babywearing consultation appointment. I will not be able to give you my full attention and help you with your individual decision on carriers during these hours. If you wish to make an appointment for a babywearing consultation, please do so for my Tuesday hours.

Personal Babywearing Consultations

I offer personal consultations and sales in my home office by appointment. The 45 to 60 minute consultation will cover a demonstration of the five major types of baby slings and carriers and an assessment of your particular needs. You will be able to try on any or all of the carriers you wish, and you will learn how to use the carrier you purchase.

Consultations are also available if you have a sling or carrier purchased elsewhere and need assistance in learning to use it comfortably and correctly.

There will be a non-refundable $20 charge for this service, applicable as a credit towards your purchase of a sling or carrier. (The credit will not apply towards purchases of accessories only.)

Available appointment times during the summer of 2008 are on Tuesdays at 9:30 am, 10:30 am, 11:30 am, and 12:30 pm. I may be able to accommodate appointment times other than these in special circumstances.

Please arrive promptly to your babywearing consultation, or let me know as far in advance as possible if you're running late or cannot make your appointment.

Payment/Secure Shopping

I accept Paypal, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. (Paypal enables you to use your credit card, linked bank account, or eCheck.) Your credit card information is submitted through a secure server so that you can shop with confidence! (Please note that the shopping cart will transfer you to the secured page to enter your credit card information after you have entered your address and chosen your payment method.) I will also accept U.S. Postal Service money orders; please contact me to reserve the items you want.

Sales Tax

Sales tax of 7% will be charged on all orders shipping to New Jersey. Orders shipping to all other states will not be charged sales tax.

US Shipping

I do my best to ship your order the same day it is received; otherwise, your order will ship the next business day.

I offer free shipping on US orders of $100 and above (merchandise only; sales tax and shipping costs do not count towards total). This may be sent by Priority or Parcel Post, at my discretion. Items shipped Parcel Post may take up to a week to arrive.

Otherwise, you have your choice of shipping items via first-class mail (for items under 13 ounces), US Priority Mail, or US Parcel Post, all with delivery confirmation. Overnight shipping is available via US Express Mail.

All shipping includes delivery confirmation for tracking purposes. You will receive an email with your delivery confirmation number. Please check your spam/bulk mail folder for this email if it isn't in your inbox.

Shipping Outside the US

VACATION NOTE: ALL ORDERS PLACED BETWEEN JUNE 27TH AND JULY 6TH WILL SHIP JULY 7TH, 2008.

All payments must be made in US dollars. On orders of US $100 and over, you will receive a $5 rebate towards your shipping costs. You must email me to let me know your package has arrived to receive the $5 rebate.

Shipping options include Express Mail International and Priority Mail International. Although First Class Mail International is cheapest, I do not offer it because it does not offer a way to track packages.

My shopping cart is not set up to allow you to purchase insurance on your package. I am happy to use your $5 rebate towards the cost of insurance; please include a note in your order. I cannot be responsible for packages that are not delivered, so all international shipping without insurance is at your own risk.

The shipping costs you will pay on your order cover ONLY postage. You are responsible for all taxes, customs, or duties charged by your country. I will add all necessary customs forms with the value of the merchandise clearly marked. By law, I cannot mark items that you buy for yourself as "gifts" to avoid customs charges. The customs form will reflect the cost paid for your purchase.

Please inform yourself of your country's regulations on customs, duties, and/or VAT. I have no control over the amount your country may charge you on your purchase, or the length of time it may take for your purchase to clear the customs office.

Returns and Exchanges

I want you to be happy with your carrier! Please contact me before returning an item so that I can try to help you trouble-shoot if necessary. If the carrier just isn't working for you, please get a return authorization from me before sending it back.

All carriers (except custom BabyHawks) in new, unwashed, odor-free condition with all original packaging and instructions may be returned or exchanged within 30 days of purchase (60 days for Ergo Baby Carriers). If you are pregnant or adopting, the return period will begin when your baby arrives. I must receive your purchased carrier within the 30-day timeframe.

Tummy 2 Tummy DVDs may be returned for exchange if you receive a defective one, but otherwise will not be accepted for returns if the box has been opened. BabyLegs will be accepted for return if they are new and unopened, but if they have been taken out of the package they cannot be returned unless there's a manufacturing defect. Custom BabyHawks cannot be returned unless there is a manufacturing defect.

I will refund your original purchase price minus shipping charges (even if the initial shipping was free). For an exchange in which you paid the initial shipping costs, I will pay to ship your exchange item to you. For an exchange in which you received free shipping of the initial item, you will need to pay shipping both to return your item and to receive your substitute item back. All exchanges are final sales.

I reserve the right to refuse a return or to charge a restocking fee of 5-25% of the item's cost if the item is not in new, unwashed, odor-free, sellable condition with all original packaging and instructions, or if the item does not arrive within the 30-day return period. Items that are dirty or have been washed, smell of smoke, perfume, or laundry detergent/softener, or that have excessive lint or pet hair on them will not be accepted and will be returned to you.

Defects

Please inspect your baby carrier upon receipt and contact me immediately in the unlikely event that your carrier has a manufacturing defect to arrange for a refund or an exchange.

Privacy

I will never share your information with any other person or entity, except as required for payment processing. I will send out email newsletters with babywearing tips and tricks, product announcements, discount codes, etc. Please let me know if you do not wish to receive such newsletters.

Babywearing Safety/Disclaimer

All of the baby products I sell are professionally manufactured and inspected. However, your baby's safety is ultimately your responsibility. Please inspect your sling or carrier before you first use it and before every use thereafter for signs of wear and tear, and immediately stop using it if you detect any potential problems.

Read all printed instructions and watch any instructional DVDs that come with your carrier. Ensure you know how to use your carrier correctly and that you keep a firm grip on your baby at all times when putting her in and taking her out of the carrier, bending over, etc. Do not engage in any hazardous activities while babywearing, such as driving, riding a bike, rock climbing, etc. Make sure to keep your baby safely away from any heat source, hot food and drink, etc.

Make sure to practice over a soft surface such as a bed and check your work in a mirror to ensure baby is secure. Always keep at least one hand firmly holding onto your baby when putting her in the carrier, and make sure she is securely in the carrier before letting go. To maintain your babyï¿½s airway properly, always ensure that babyï¿½s face is not covered by fabric and that babyï¿½s chin is not forced against her chest.
