What It Is

The CatBird Baby BE (for Babywearing Essentials) mei tai gets back to basics with everything that you need in a mei tai baby carrier, and nothing that you don't! As with any mei tai, the CatBird Baby BE features a set of waist straps, a set of shoulder straps, and a body panel -- a simple cloth carrier design that works for babies and parents of all shapes and sizes. This well-priced Asian-style baby carrier is an excellent value, especially for a baby carrier that's made in the USA of 100% US-milled cotton fabric. The sturdy 10-ounce weight cotton fabric is brushed for softness and provides excellent support. The softly padded headrest can be folded down if desired and provides the perfect amount of support for wobbly newborn heads. The built-in elastic loop on one side is a clever and innovative touch that narrows down the base for parents who want to wear their babies in a forward-facing-out position.

How It Works

As with any other mei tai baby carrier, the CatBird Baby BE's bottom straps are tied in a full knot (no half-knots and no bows, please!) around your natural waist. The carrier body keeps baby next to you on your front or your back, and the lightly padded shoulder straps cross over baby's body and tie in a second knot with crossed straps for a front carry or backpack-style straps for a back carry. If you have enough strap length, tying variations such as the Lexi Twist or Tibetan Finish are options. The CatBird Baby BE allows legs-in for a newborn or a small baby, legs-out for a bigger baby, on either your front or your back. You can also do forward-facing out with the built-in elastic loop to narrow the base, and you can even do a hip carry. The CatBird Baby BE is a great carrier for discreet nursing.
